I'm trying to collect all of the issues for faculty awareness on our campus and I'm tracking these issues (Let me know if I'm incorrect on any of these?):
CURRENT ISSUES with Grade Center in Bb 8
1) Grade Center - Drop Lowest Score on Total Column Doesn't Work
You can drop a score using a Weighted total, but not a "regular" total. Dropping does not work in any calculated column type other than weighted - not total, average, or min/max.
2) Grade Center - Extra Credit Column Not Working
You can't use a point value of 0 like you used to. Workaround: You can modify your Total or Weighted column to use "selected grade columns" instead of "all grade columns".
3) Grade Center - Download Grade Total Column Doesn't Work
When you download grades using the download feature, if you select to just download the Total column, the spreadsheet doesn't include that column.
4) Grade Center - Points Possible and Weight Values Not Included in Download
When you download your gradebook there isn't a way to find out the weighted values or the total points possible for the class or for each assignment.
5) Grade Center - Student Sort is Incorrect
When 2 (or more) students with the same last name are in the grade center, the names are not sorted correctly. The expected behavior is to sort by lastname and then by firstname.
6) Grade Center - Column Information
Column Information on a calculated column is often wrong or missing.
7) Grade Center - Report Order
The Reports feature using selected students displays student names in the order in which they were enrolled into the course and not in any logical (alphabetical) order.
8) Grade Center - Users with last name "Null" prevents loading of Grade Center
Users with last name "Null" cause Grade Center to never load.
9) Grade Center - Freeze Columns Limit
In Manage > Organize Grade Center, if too many columns are "locked" the Grade Center will not load. This happens anytime the number of columns "locked" reaches beyond the right-hand side of the computer's display.
10) Grade Center - Override and Assessments/Assignments
Students can still submit assignments or tests after a 0 grade has been entered from the spreadsheet view (resulting in an override grade)--a challenge because there's no indication that a student has submitted the assignment or test late. Going through Grade Details, Modify Attempt, and entering 0 in the value column will prevent a student from submitting the assignment or test.)
And I have a lot of enhancements (some of which was far easier in Bb 7) submitted also that include the following:
ENHANCEMENT REQUESTS for the Grade Center in Bb 8
1) Ability to remove more than 1 column at a time.
2) Ability to set a column to be shown in My Grades, more than 1 column at a time.
3) Ability to manage more than 1 due date at a time.
4) Ability to set multiple columns up to be included or not in grade score calculations.
5) Ability to easily see, in the grid view, which items in your gradebook are included or not in Grade Center calculations.
6) Ability to easily see what each column is weighted in the grid view.
7) Remove grade center wasted white space causing very few names to be displayed when compared to Bb 7.
8) Ability to click on 1 student and see all of their grades like you could do in Bb 7.
9) Ability to easily print the gradebook without download to Excel first.
10) Ability for students to see primary and secondary display.
11) Ability to move more than 1 column at a time.
12) Ability to see category for items in the grid view.
13) The ability to easily see and change all of the columns which are displayed in My Grades. (A column which is hidden in the instructor's view of the Grade Center may still be displayed in My Grades.)
14) Ability for the column widths to self-adjust like they did in Bb 7.
15) Grading assignments and assessments in Bb 7 was easier than it is in Bb 8. Better workflow is needed.
16) Allow for an institution to set the default columns that display for new courses, rather than auto-include student id/username/last access.
What am I missing?
Sincerely,
Eric
Other Issues:
A period at the end of an assignment name renders zip file download inoperable
Description: Problem Description:
There used to be problem in Bb where you couldn't download the zipped file of student assignments if the assignment name had certain "illegal" characters (such as ' and #) in it. It was fix, and we haven't seen it for a while. Now (we're on r8.0.307.14), it has reared it's ugly head again.
An instructor (possibly with OCD) put a period at the end of all her assignment names. Example:
Week 11. Geometry as (the only) Theory. Reading Response.
Guess what? The zip files contain two periods before the extension (..zip) so cannot be downloaded. Removing the final period from the assignment name solves the problem.
Steps to Replicate:
Create an assignment with a period at the end of the title. For example:
Week 11. Geometry as (the only) Theory. Reading Response.
Add submissions. In to grade center, select Assignment File Download from corresponding column header

Another Issue:
Grade Center "View Full Comment" Button Broken in Override Panel

Eric,
Thanks for collecting this info on the Grade Center. Our instructors really detest that an in-progress assignment is effectvely "exempted" until it is either cleared or graded. so as soon as a student submits an assignment, their total point possible is reduced by the points in the un-progress assignment, thus looking like they have a higher grade (since their points earned has not changed). This is driving our instructors nuts and confuses the students, who don't really know how many points are really possible in the course. I would like points posslbe to not change for a student unless the instructor marks the item as "exempt" themselves, regardless of any work that is ungraded/in progress.
Thanks!
